Description
Material: Rock
Classification:Igneous>Volcanic>Mafic
Field Name: ash-lapilli sized material from top of ice - likely redeposited, windblown from 2016, but could have 2016 ash; ice has sulfur dome rock on top
Description:Black granular material on top of ice accumulated through downward ablation, likely deposited in 2016 as windblown material
Age (min):Not Provided
Age (max):Not Provided
Collection Method:Grab
Collection Method Description:Top of ice
Size:1 Gallon
Geological Age:Not Provided
Geological Unit:Not Provided
Comment:Sampled thin veneer of ash-lapilli sized material (detritus? Not sure), may have some juvenile material, Hoping for 2016 ash -the idea is that the ice is 2016, so what is on top is 2016, black granular material on top of ice accumulated through downward ablation, but likely deposited in 2016 as windblown material, even if not juvenile. This was near a large sulfurous boulder on top of ice - probably part of the dome blown-up in 2016
Purpose:Melt inclusions, crystal chronometry, geochemistry
